In 1970, Fleer made a deal with artist Robert Laughlin to create a 66-card set, that recounted the history of the World Series to date. Oddly enough, this series was issued just after the first season of MLB division play. The full set covered each World Series from 1903-1969, and was a hit with collectors, leading to a decade of subsequent Fleer issues covering postseason play. Measuring 17-3/4 x 13-1/4", the offered board features Laughlin's original artwork for the obverse of (9) different cards, with one each for consecutive Fall Classics played from 1922-1930. None of the works are complete with all aspects of the final design, but Laughlin's hand is readily recognizable in all (9) works. Sections of the 1922 and 1924 cards have been clipped from the board, with the removed pieces being captions, and adhesive residue is noted in varying degrees on all cards, except the 1928 card. Rather than detract from the presentation, these conditions serve to reinforce the authenticity of this production piece, which stands as a fine piece of baseball card history. This fantastic art board is graced with images of Babe Ruth on the 1923 card, and Walter Johnson on the 1925 card. Others of note are John McGraw, Tony Lazzeri, and Connie Mack's last great Philadelphia A's dynasty of 1929-1930.
