Description



Those who attained the highest office in the land are up for review, with this U.S. President news service photo lot of (33). Dating from the 1920s-1960s, this collection includes at least one shot of every president from Woodrow Wilson through John F. Kennedy. The single Wilson photo actually dates from 1943, though it was originally taken in 1919 at the Peace Conference in Versailles. The rest of the bunch are period dated from when the subjects were either holding office or running for it. The reverse of each photo bears some combination of dates, captions, credits and/or editorial notations, and several have cropping marks on the obverse. Condition ranges (80% VG to EX, 20% lesser) with:

 

Presidents (30): Woodrow Wilson at Versailles;Warren  Harding inauguration; Calvin Coolidge visiting his home state Vermont; Herbert Hoover (2): presenting a medal to Admiral Byrd, touring Puerto Rico; Franklin D. Roosevelt (13): at Albany airport, addressing delegates at 1932 DNC in Chicago, 1933 inauguration, in a car at 1933 inauguration, addressing Congress (3) different, in his swimming pool at Hyde Park, lighting a cigarette at a Campobello press conference, signing a Public Works program, radio fireside chat, signing a Farm Inflation Bill, signing the Neutrality Bill; Harry S. Truman (8): addressing Congress (2), visiting miners in Montana, at Grandview airport, at a state fair, as a Senator during WWII, in Grand Rapids following a speech, getting off a train at Highland Park; Dwight D. Eisenhower at the podium in Cleveland; and John F. Kennedy (3): at the airport in the Bahamas saying goodbye to British Prime Minister Harold McMillan, making a speech at Mt. Clemens, speaking at Boeing Field. 


Candidates/Speakers (3): Wendell Willkie at the Hotel Commodore; Thomas Dewey at a parade in Los Angeles; and General of the Army Douglas MacArthur at the 1952 RNC in Chicago.
