Everyone knows the Titanic, but far less notoriety goes to the sinking of the Dorchester—torpedoed by the Nazis in WWII with 672 U.S. personnel perishing on board. Clark Poling was one of the famous "Four Chaplains" who saved numerous lives before going down with the ship. Here, rather incredibly, is Poling's high-school football team photo featuring his rare signature ("8" strength) and that of his 17 teammates. There's some heavy wear along the top edge of the 8x10 sepia photo, otherwise fine. Auction LOA from JSA.
