The times were changing dramatically in the 1960s and the Boston Herald kept up nicely in the sports and politics departments, by running the entertaining illustrations of artist Vic Johnson. Here we see Johnson's take on Baltimore-based teams, with this 1966-1971 original artwork lot of (5). Created on Bristol Board or similar material, these sizable works are perfectly suited for framed display. All (5) pieces are in better to excellent condition with off-white to light-cream surfaces. Minimal to moderate wear is noted on the corners, but otherwise this group remains clean and solid. As for authentic provenance, each piece has professional editorial notations penciled on the margins and Johnson's trademark circled signature is located at the bottom right corner of all.

Featured are:

1971 AFC/NFC Championship games 9-3/4 x 15" board with the Colts vs the Oakland Raiders at bottom for the 10/2/71 AFC Championship game. Johnny Unitas is depicted riding a Colt that has left horseshoe impressions on the rear end of a downed Raiders pirate figure, just below the score "27-17" over a star. The upper panel signifies the Dallas Cowboys 10/3/71 NFC Championship victory over the San Francisco 49ers. A tall riding Cowboy rides off with an admiring girl towards a Super Bowl sunrise. Unfortunately for the 'Boys, the Colts would outlast them in Super Bowl V, which is known as the "Blooper Bowl" for the many turnovers and mistakes that occurred during the game. This infamous event ended with Hall of Fame quarterbacks Johnny Unitas and Roger Staubach on the sidelines, while Earl Morrall battled it out with Craig Morton.

10/4/70 Colts vs. Boston Patriots 9-3/4 x 14" board with a series of humorous scenes, including a Colt biting a Patriot on the ass. The score is noted as a 14-6 win for the Colts.

6/18/66 Orioles vs. Boston Red Sox 11x15 board for a regular season game that saw the O's score 16 runs on 18 hits. The dated, crushing monument on top of a flattened Boston player notes Baltimore heavy artillery, with Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Johnny Powell, Dave Johnson and Curt Blefary.

9/14-16/67 Orioles vs. Red Sox board describing a late season 3-game sweep by the O's, during the "Impossible Dream" season that saw the Sox finish first in the American League.

10/3/70 ALCS/NLCS 11-1/2 x 15 board with the Orioles vs. the Minnesota Twins in Game 1 of the ALCS depicted at left, in a contest won by the O's by a noted score of 7-4. At right is a depiction of the Cincinnati Reds 3-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game 1 of the NLCS.
