Long before Brooks and Frank took “Charm City” by storm, there was a Hall of Fame Robinson who captained the Baltimore Orioles dynasty of the 1890s. Wilbert Robinson was a durable, clutch performer who became “the face” of the franchise. This handsome 1899-00 M101-1 Sporting News Supplement (5/27/99, full body pose) Wilber(t) Robinson depicts the Cooperstown enshrinee toward the end of his tenure with the club. With his Reach bat in tow, the mustachioed backstop grades (EX to EX-MT) with minimal foxing and exterior wear. The ornate reverse is clean with uniform wrinkles that do not protrude the surface. With the winning combination of condition and pose, this supplement is an ideal depiction of “Uncle Robbie.”
