With a start during the sweltering summer and concluding at the beginning of a new year, the 1909 M101-2 Sporting News Supplements showcased some of the greatest baseball players ever to lace up the spikes. This complete set of (24) pictures feature fifteen Hall of Famers including Cobb, Lajoie, Mathewson and Wagner. The composite breakdown for this oversized weekly series is 46% (EX-MT or better), 20% (EX), 17% (VG-EX) and 17% (VG or lesser). Highlights include 8/5 Mathewson (VG, with light pinholes), 8/12 Cobb (VG), 8/19 Lajoie (EX), 9/2 Chance (EX-MT), 9/9 Walsh (EX-MT), 9/23 Wagner (EX), 10/28 Collins (NM), 12/2 Speaker (NM) and 12/9 M. Brown (EX-MT). The reverses display uniform paper wrinkling which is consistent with each picture, possibly due to shipping or factory distribution methods of the age. The majority of these back imperfections do not protrude the surface. Due to the rudimentary printing techniques of the age, slight variances in size exist.
